CABLE BREAK REPAIRED.
(By Telegraph. Press Association.) WELLINGTON. Friday. The Pacific Cable Board's steamer Iris took in a large quantity of cable from the Post and Telegraph stores yesterday, and proceeded to Cook Strait this morning to repair a break in No. 1 cable. The steamer had just returned from a smart, repair job to the Wellington-Sydney cable, which was discovered to have been damaged 200 miles west of Wellington. That work was completed in twenty hours, which is considered very creditable, as the cable was picked up 400 fathoms below the surface.
