MIRACULOUS ESCAPE.
M A X FALLS FROM TIMBER TRUCK. BOTH ARMS BROKEN. Word was received in Te Awamutu yesterday morning from Pirongia that Mr D’Arcy .Tones, who is prominently associated with the sawmilling 'industry in Pirongia, had been badly hurt. It appears that Mr Jones was riding down the tramline on a rake of trucks, and when near a small bridge crossing a dry creek he stooped to adjust something, when lie over-balanced, owing to the vibration, and fell head foremost to the creek bed —a distance of about 40 feet. By a lucky chance lie fell with his arms extended, thus protecting his hea.d from direct impact with the boulders. A rescue was at once effected, and it was found that Mr Jones had suffered a fracture of both forearms and several bruises about the head. Dr Blundell, of Te Awamutu, promptly proceeded to the locality and attended the sufferer, afterwards having him sent to the Waikato PTospital.
