THE DAIRY POOL.

THE BILL INTRODUCED. WIDE POWERS GIVEN. The Dairy Produce Export Control Bill was introduced in the House of Representatives. It provides for the establishment of a Dairy Produce Control Board, consisting of two representatives of the Government and nine representatives of the producers, six elected by producers in the North Island and three elected by producers in the South Island. The powers and duties of the board are to be similar to those of the Meat Producers' Board.

\ A London agency of the board is to be established. This agency will consist of such number of persons as the board may decide, one of them to be nominated by the Government. The agency will keep the board informed as to prices and other matters and will act as the agent of the board. • Dairy produce is not to be exported from New Zealand save on conditions determined by the board. The board may assume control of dairy produce intended for export. The board may make contracts for the shipment of dairy produce. The board may make a levy on dairy produce exported from New Zealand in order to provide the funds required for the operation Of the scheme. The board is to have power for the handling, storage and pooling of dairy produce, for shipment, sale and distribution. It may give security over produce exported for the purpose of paying advances to the producers. THE PROPOSED OOMMITTE. The Minister of Agriculture gave notice of his intention to move for the appointment of the following committee to consider the proposed Dairy Produce Export Control Bill: Messrs 0. J. Hawken, V. H. Reed, F. F. Hockly, H. Poland, R. Masters, A. D. McLeod, A. Hamilton, H.'E. Holland, E. Newman and the mover.

The Leader of the Opposition asked whether the Minister would not be prepared to add the name of Mr S. G. Smith (Taranaki) since Taranaki was a large dairying district. Mr Nosworthy replied that in his opinion the committee was large enough and representative enough. If he had erred at a'll, it had been in the direction of making the committee too large. He preferred not to add to it. Later, after the introduction of the Dairy Produce Export Control Bill, the Minister moved that the committee should be set up and that Mr j McC. Dickson should be a member of it in place of Mr E. Newman. The House agreed and the Bill was referred to the newly con> t .- ed committee.
