CRICKET ASSOCIATION.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Waipa Cricket Association was held in the Waipa Post office last night, Mr Spenceley Walker presiding over a fair attendance of supporters. The balance sheet which showed a small credit balance, was adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr J. C. Montefiore; president, Mr S. Walker; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Philp. J. Crotty, C.J. Spiers, T. P. Clark and A. P. Scobie; secretary, Mr R. Scobie; treasurer, Mr H. Semmens. Committee, Messrs I. F. McDonald, S. C. Somerville, Hblmes and W. Douglas; selection committee, Messrs Semmens and Somerville.
The president spoke strongly on the matter of finance, and stressed the point that if they could not get the support of followers of the game the Association could not be expected to carry on. He thought it would be a good idea to include two or three junior members in the representative team to encourage them to take more interest in the game. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to donors of trophies and cheques to the Association last season.
Monday, 16th October, was fixed for the closing of nominations for both senior and junior teams, entries to be forwarded to the secretary. A suggestion that the committee do all in its power to foster junior teams met with enthusiastic support. The matter of selecting a site for a second concrete pitch was left in the hands of Messrs Walker and Philp, with power to act. Affiliation fees of clubs were fixed at £1 for senior and 5s for junioi teams, and if necessity arises a levy be made on members.
Messrs Walker and Philp were appointed a committee to arrange the providing of afternoon tea on the ground.
