NEW ZEALAND.

A LAND OF OPPORTUNITIES.

At the end of March Mr T. IL. Maclean, vice-president of the 'Gaelic Society of 'London, returned from New Zealand and Australia, where he investigated the possibilities of Australasia from trade and other aspects. In conversation 'with a Pall Mall 'Gazette representative he said: " New Zealand has a great future, and the present temporary depression should make New Zealand people determined to get on the land and have it thoroughly cultivated; in fact, these times should put iron into their souls. One must remember that New Zealand is a butter, grain, flax, and meat!: producing country, and that, therefore, as soon as the Continent of Europe, gets back to work, and the people have the means to pay for food, trade will revive. New Zealand is a wonderful country when you consider the great progress that has been made in seventy years. The hall mark of Great Britain is stamped everywhere. I found the New Zealaniders a most hospitable'and kind people. I have been greatly impressed with the fertility and the scenery of the country. It requires a 'larger population, for more people—men wiith wjives and families, could do well in New Zealand I noticed that there is a high level of intelligence of the people throughout New Zealand. There is a great charm about its beautiful climate and bright skies. I noticed with pride the grand pedigree stocks of 'Shorthorn cattle, Clydesdale horses and sheep/Farmers at Home do not realise that they carry such good stocks in the Dominion. I recommend New Zealand to a good class of people who are young, ambitious, and hard workers. There is a greater freedom there than in older countries. New Zealand requires Scottish immigrants of the stamp of the early pioneers who made New Zealand."
