POWER BOARD LOAN.

FOR private service installations. PROPOSALS SANCTIONED. , The loan authority poll in connection with the proposals brought forward by the Te Awamutu Electric Power Board for raising £25,000 to provide financial assistance to power consumers when making service installations was held yesterday,- and resulted in a substantial majority of voters recording in favour of the loan. The polling places were located in all the out-districts, and, saye in one instance where the polling was equally divided, there was a majority at every booth in favour of the loan. Generally, however, the number of votes recorded was disappointing, as, out of a total of approximately 1500 voters, less than 250 exercised the voting privilege. It goes to show that had there been any organisation .anywhere to defeat the loan—since it can be assumed that those who did not vote were not opposed to the proposal—the loan would easily have been rejected. The results were announced by the returning officer (Mr U. McArthur) last night as follows: For the proposal, 206; against, 39; informal, 3. Details of the polling at the several polling places are:—

It is worthy of mention that preceding the taking of the poll fourteen meetings were, held throughout the power district, when i>the proposals were explained and questions answered hy Mr J. T. Johnson (chairman) and officials of the Power 'Board. These meetings were enthusiastic, and invariably recorded an unanimous expression of thanks to the Board —a fact which might have resulted in a larger number of votes being recorded on polling day. It is assumed that at the regular meeting of the Board to-morrow negotiations for the raising of the first instalments of the 'loan will be considered, and that those wishing to make service installations will find the time opportune to lodge applications for advances.
