At the Supreme Court, Auckland, Hugh. John Walker, labourer, charged with breaking and entering at Ohaupo, was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment. There was a large attendance at the crib tournament on Tuesday night, a number of games being keenly and evenly contested. Messrs S. H. West and W. Potter topped the list with six wins each, and in the play-off the former won, and thus secured the club's trophy. ** Diptheria is prevalent at Hamilton at present, over 20 cases from that town being isolated in the Waikato Hospital. Inquiries made locally show that Te Awamutu and the surrounding districts are at present entirely free from this disease.

The promoters of St. John's Church social to be held in the Town Hall this evening, are making every preparation. The judging in the children's fancy dress dancing, will take place at 7.30 p.m., and the early part of the evening will be devoted to the children, after which adults will find every opportunity for a very pleasant time.

At the local bodies' gathering at Qtorohanga on Monday night, Mr F. P. Phillips took occasion to reply to press criticism in regard to his action in connection with a hydro-electric service for Otorohangk. He said that as a matter of fact what had been done was for the good of the district, inasmuch that they would now be able to get a service of power within 18 months, and with a saving in expanse of some £24,000.

It was stated at the Waihou meeting of dairymen, that if all the employees of the New Zealand Dairy Company were to work without any payment at all for a year the suppliers would re ceive in addition only Id lb of butter-fat supplied to any of the factories under the control of the company. The New Zealand Dairy Company has decided to proceed immediately with the erection of a dumping station in Morrinsville. The cream will be sampled and graded in Morrinsville into three grades—superfine, first, and second grade—and will be sent to the Waitoa butter factory- The dumping will not cost the suppliers more than Id per lb of butter-fat. The company has promised the local committee to erect an up-to-date butter factory within three years if the supply warrants it, and if the national finances permit the company will start to build in 18 months' time.
