FEBRUARY SCHOOL HOURS.

Sir,—'lt is with genial amusement' that I read in your valued paper the opinions of various correspondents on the Felbruary school hours question. Certain of the writers seem to foe under the impression that well-dir-ected invective will result in its abolition. They need not waste their time struggling with a dictionary and a grammar (or, worse still, without). Paper is dear just now, and there is quite enough to worry about in regard to the low price of butter-fat. Teachers object to the short days; they cause extra work later. Town parents Object; children are out of the way when at school. Country parents appear to object; perhaps it is rather hard for the children to get to school by 8.30 a.m.; but then the children are home and able to gather potatoes all afternoon; surely that compensates. But all seem agreed that halfday school in February is a farce—and as far as health is concerned I believe it to he also —so it will foe highly improhafole if such a waste of time and money is permitted next year.—l am, etc., MELANGE.
