WELLINGTON, Friday

A deputation' from the Pirongia Railway League presented the petition and the plans for constituting the railway area to the Minister of Public Works to-day.

M<r Coates expressed sympathy with the 24-inch gauge, and raised no objection to the running of the railway on the roadside.

The Foxton-Sandon tramway had been a great success, and Mr Coates ■promised to do anything that wj'll assist the settlers of Waikato. ,' , The Minister will, visit Te Awamutu as the guest "of the Pirongia Railway League in two weeks' time. .
