OLD WOMAN ABUSED. '

NAPIER, Friday. George Dunn, alias George Burt, was found guilty of the manslaughter of, Marion Baird, aged 71 years, at Hastings on 22nd April, and was sentenced to twenty years' hard labour. Th 4 evidence disclosed that Dunn accompanied deceased home, dragged her into a garden, and committed a grave assault. In the struggle she succumbed to heart failure. Judge Reed, addressing Dunn, said, " Jou are rightly convicted of an abominable and atrocious crime. Many a -man who has paid the penalty of his.life for murder was naF"guilty of half the brutality you used. The appalling brutality of-your crime marks you, as being a creature so vile as to be' unfit to associate with decent beings." ■
