THE HOSPITAL LEVY.
WAITOMO'S BIG BILL. QUESTION OF PAYMENT. The hospital levy claimed attention at the last meeting of the Waitomo County Council when the Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote requesting payment of the sum of £2453 4/, the amount of levy for the year ending March 31st, 1922. The letter also pointed out that the levy for 1920-21 was in arrears by £1248 The chairman questioned whether the Council's finances would permit of the whole of the money being paid. Cr. Wilson referring to the arrears said the financial position is such that as long as there were outstanding liabilities of this nature the Council could not" carry on." It was their duty to pay these accounts. He move! that the hospital levy for the year be paid. Cr. Wall moved an amendment that the Council pay a further instalment of £646 4/6 on last year's levy.
Cr. Hargeaves seconded th eamendment which was carried.
