WHAREPAPA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING.

. Ameeting of the Wiharepapa Road Board was held on -Saturday. There were present: Messrs J. T. Young (chairman), W. Old, H. C. iSpeedy, J. H. Beard, and W. Kay. The engineer (Mr E. R. Gould) and the clerk (Mr S. J. Fortescue) were also in attendance.

Notification was received from the State Advances Office that the sum of £IOOO had been remitted on account of the £SOOO loan.

A letter was received from the Department of Lands and Survey submitting plan of a new road through the Tokanui Mental Hospital property and the Waikeria Reformatory reserve, to which consent had been given.—On the motion of the chairman, authority was given for the consent of the Board to such road, and the chairman, on behalf of the Board, signed the plans as desired by the Department. Application was made by Mr H. J. Falker, of Te Mawhai, to have the road formed between- Mr L. G. Abel’s property and Te Kawa, so as to provide access to his property, which, he said had no road frontage. A separate petition was also presented in respect of the same application signed by eight other .settlers—The engineer explained the position of the matter, and, as this called for careful consideration, on the motion of Mr Speedy, seconded by Mr Kay, it was decided to defer any action until the next meeting of the Board. The engineer presented his report as follows: “ The alteration of grades and alignment of the Otorohanga-Ki-hikihi Road along the flat near the Tokanui quarry has been completed, and this portion is now being metalled. I have taken the levels over the two low flats betwe'en tihe quarry and the boundary of Waitomo county, which during wet weather get so bad and block motor traffic. Plans _ for raising and metalling these portions have been prepared and submitted to the Public Works Department for approval, and the work will.be proceeded with as soon as possible. I have taken the levels of 44 chains of the Mangaorongo-Te Kawa Road from ithe junction of Williams’ Road to Gruicltshank’s section, with a view to improving the grades. Plans will be prepared and submitted to the Public Works Department for approval in the course of a few days. Mr Thomson has completed the m'etal'ling of Ashby’s hill on the Kawa to Wharepuhunga Road, a distance of 43 chains and a fair job has been made. Mr Townsend is making good progress with his metalling contract, and has now only about 20 chains to complete. The Aotearoa Road has been thoroughly repaired and rounded up with the grader right out to the Parawera boundary. Improvement work is now being carried out on Tolley’s Road, from the junction at Ngaroma to the gate at the foot of the hill; beyond this point is a matter for the Public Works Department.”— The report was adopted.
