The allegation that every Labour candidate for election in the city of Christchurch is compelled to pledge' himself to stand against everything Imperial was made by the Rev. Howard Elliott at a recent meeting (states an exchange). Mr Elliott said that he could produce the evidence of persons who had seen the pledges referred to and of others who had been asked to affix their signatures to it. An Order-in-Council gazetted recently provides that New Zealand teachers exchanged with teachers from other countries shall be classified as relieving teachers, and shall receive such salaries as will most nearly approximate -to the salaries received in their last permanent positions.
