KING COUNTRY HOSPITAL.

LOCAL BODIES FINANCE.

DONATION TO BOARD.

As a possible solution of the hospital difficulties at Te Awamuiu, for the , consideration of which a public meeting is to be held next Tuesday, ike experience of T.; Kuiti may serve as a precedent. At last Thursday’s meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board a Te Kuiti deputation, headed by the Mayor, Mr G. P. Finlay, attended to make a voluntary donation of £ISOO. Mr Finlay explained that the people of Te Kuiti district had purchased an admirable site of fifteen acres for a hospital, but had not yet paid for it, though the money would in all probability be available next week. By handing the money over to the Board as a voluntary contribution the Board would be able to secure a Government subsidy of 24/ in the £ on the amount. The Board could then, without actuallly earmarking the money, pay for the site. An estimate of the cost of erecting suitable buildings had been received at £12,000. The local bodies of the district were agreeable to cover this cost and to hand over the hospital as a going concern to the Board to administer. The proportions of cost decided upon were: Waitomo £3500, Te Kuiti borough £2500, Awakino £2500. There would tjien be the subsidy of £IBOO on the £ISOO contribution, and further subsidies on the amounts contributed by the local bodies, which would bring up the amount to the total required. The Board decided to accept the contribution without reservation.
