LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL APPOINTMENTS.

MR JOHN FISHER INCLUDED.

Eleven new appointments to the Legislative Council have been made by His Excellency the Governor, the list of appointments being announced by the Prime Minister in the House of Representatives on Tuesday night. Included in the list is the name of Mr John Fisher, of Pukerimu, chairman of the Waipa County Council, who for many years has rendered a very valuable service to the community of Waikato by his never flagging zeal . and interest in the wise administration of the affairs of local governing bodies. Very general satisfaction is expressed at his appointment which may rightly be regarded not only as a well deserved reward for his public service, but also as an honour to the district which he will so worthily represent. To the Hon. John Fisher, we with every other resident of this district, extend our heartiest congratulations. The following are the names of the gentlemen appointed : —W. Morgan, Gisborne ; J. Fisher, Waikato ; R. K. Simpson, Marton; J. G. W. Aitken, Wellington; G. Carson, Wanganui; J.W. MacGregor, Dunedin ; T. McGribbon, Southland ; A.T. Maginnity, Nelson ; R. Moore, Kaiapoi; O. Samuel, New Plymouth; Dr Collins, Wellington. The two last-named have b een re-appointed.
