His companions were interested, "There is a girl 1 love dearly," he continued. "She would have mo if ! asked her, but 1 dare not. I realh cannot marry on two thousand pound; a year." Amazement was depicted on the face of his friends.
"You can't marry on two thousan< pounds a year!" gasped one. "Wh.\ not?"
"Ah," sighed the young man, "simp ly because I haven't got two thousanc pounds a year."
