DISTRICT SHIELD COMPETITION WAIPAWA RINKS DO WELL IN FIRST ROUND. Playing five rinks in this year’s District Shield competition of the Hawke’s Bay Bowling Centre, the Waipawa Club registered four wins on Saturday, and in the one game which was lost the margin of points was only four. The second round will not be played until Saturday, December 2nd, as the Centre will be paying a courtesy visit to Palmerston North next Saturday. Details of last Saturday’s play are as under:— Ron. Petherick, Angus, Kenny, Jopson, 20; Bailey, Watson, Ellis, Drury (Heretaunga), 16. Hawke, Harker,- Dunkin, Patterson, 24; Head, Baillie, Aherhart, Leicester (Havelock North), 12. Young, MeDonell, Mclntosh, Holt, 22; Daines, Walker, Evison, Burge (Heretaunga), 17. Ireland, Davy, Fleet, Eagle 15; Cuff, Elliott, Phillips, Logan (Port Ahuriri), 19. Petherick, Larsen, Russell, Critcliley, 29; Riddell, Watson, Pirie, McLeay (Port Ahuriri), 20. CLUB COMPETITIONS. Good progress was made over the week-end with the various club competitions. Up to the present the following games have been played:— Championship Singles. Eagle beat Fleet, 20—15. Critchley beat Kenny, 18 —12. Ireland beat Adeane, 31 —16. Adeane beat Mclntosh, 23- —18. Patterson beat Dunkin, 16—14. Davy beat MeDonell, 25—8. Payne beat Murray, 25—6. Junior Singles. Angus beat F. W. Holt, 20—17. Kingston beat Limbrick, Hi—ls. Kingston beat Angus, 20—15. Handicap Pairs. Harker and Fleet beat Noell and Kenny, 19—13. Harker and Fleet beat Davy and Mclntosh, 19 —14. Davy and Mclntosh beat Holt and Dunkin, 15—8. Hodge and Murray beat Noell and Kenny, 13—8. Limbrick and Patterson beat Young and Jopson, 17—13. BREWER BUTTONS. After a succession of wins Young and Patterson lost the Brewer Buttons yesterday to Ireland and Russell, the score being 19—9 in the challengers’ favor. The winners bowled consistently throughout, and were always on top. The change in ownership will add interest to the competition, and already there are four or five challenges on the board.

SATURDAY’S RINK GAMES. In addition to the District Shield matches played on the local green on Saturday afternoon the following rink games were played:— Goulding, Little, King, McKay, 28; Nissen, Spicer, August, Payne, 12. Barrie, Kingston, Wallace, Walker, 27; Holt, Edwards, Clark, Murray, 23.

COMPLIMENTARY DANCE. A COMPLIMENTARY DANCE for the Waipawa and Otane Interhouse Teams will be held in the Concert Hall TO-NIGHT, commencing at 8 o’cloek. Novelties, Streamers, Exhibition Dances. Admission Non-team members: Gentlemen 2/-, Ladies 1/6, G. GAMBY, Hon. Sec., Plunket Society.
