An interesting sidelight upon the expenditure on clothes by dairy farmers is revealed in a survey of the work undertaken by the Social Science Research Bureau. The unmarried daughters spend most between the ages of 18 and 21, the average annual expenditure being £l4 10s. The sons spend most when they are a bit older than their sisters, between the ages of 22 and 25, and they spend I more, averaging £ls 7s per head per annum. From the result analysed, it appears that the average daughter costs more to clothe than the average son' up to the age of about 21; thereafter male attire costs slightly more than female attire, With the married folk over 26 years of age the husbands average £ll 14s a year for clothes and the wives £l2 10s. The average annual expenditure on the clothing of the farmer and persons dependent upon him and living in his home is worked out to be £35 19s.
