CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION.

HAWKE’S BAYS PART A NATIONAL INSTEAD. OF PROVINCIAL COURTS. Representatives of various local bodies throughout the whole of Hawke’s Bay met in Napier on Wednesday evening for the purpose of discussing Hawke’s Bay’s part in the Centennial Exhibition, and the allocation of the levy to cover the cost. Mr F. Eagle (Mayor) and Mr B. 0. Gamby (Town Clerk) represented the Borough of tYaipawa, and Mr N. M. Paulsen (Chairman) represented the Waipawa County. Mr J. R. Simpson, of the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition, Ltd., said that it was desirable that the exhibition be on the lines of a National court, instead of separate provincial courts. A New Zealand court instead of separate courts would enable people to obtain a better idea of the resources of the Dominion. He outlined the amended scheme in detail and said that each, province would appoint delegates to, confer with all other authorities to bring forward ideas for a better court. Special arrangements would be made when visitors entered each.section of the general New Zealand court, and the pool system of finances would materially assist all exhibiting provincial bodies and give the exhibition a more national aspect.

“All but- the three provinces yet to be met —Hawke’s Bay, Northland and Canterbury—have fallen in with the idea of a national court,” said Mr Simpson. “This scheme will prove an attractive display and will assist in the display by the smaller provinces. Working models of various aspects peculiar to each district will be shown. ”

After discussion it was decided, on the motion of Mr Gibbard, seconded by Mr Paulsen, to participate in the scheme without any definite financial commitment.

Later, on the motion of Mr H. L. Harker, a resolution was carried that the assessments be made on a basis of £2OOO for the Centennial court and £SOO for the Historical Record, and that all bodies be circularised to this effect.
