NAPIER’S BIG ASSET

NEW COLONNADE TO BE BUILT. NAPIER, Last night. At a cost of £7BO tile Napier Thirty Thousand Club will undertake the extension of the colonnade fronting the Sound Shell on Marine Parade by the erection ot' another arch. A tender for the work submitted by W. M. Angus, Ltd., has been accepted, and the work will be completed before next summer. The decision to extend the colonnade was made at a conference of representatives of the Thirty Thousand Club and the Napier Borough Council last evening. The existing colonnade reaches from the Sound Shell to the concrete Latham arch. Under the new scheme the colonnade will be extended the I'ull length of the auditorium, including the erection of an arch to be called the Robert C. Wright Arch. Midway between the two arches it is proposed to erect an even more imposing arch directly fronting the Veronica bell in the bay shelter. No name has yet been selected for the new arch, hut it was suggested that it should be known as the New Napier Arch.
