CLAIM FOR DAMAGES

SEQUEL TO MOTOR ACCIDENT. NAPIER, Last night. A sum of £SOO was claimed as general damages by Gertrude Walker, a married woman, in the Supreme Court at Napier this morning before Mr Justice Reed. The ease arose from an accident in May, 1937, when plaintiff suffered injuries in- a motor accident. A verdict for £l5O was returned. The defendant was Matthew Ferrick, represented by Mr H. B. Lusk. Mr Selwyn Averill appeared for the plaintiff. Both counsel addressed the jury, after which Mr Justice Reed summed up. “I have no hesitation in saying that £SOO is unreasonable,” he said. “If you would give her £SOO for the injuries she has suffered what would you give her for the loss of both legs and an arm? It must be in proportion.”
