BOROUGH WORKS

REPORTS OF OFFICERS. The following reports from the Borough officers were before the Council at its meeting last evening:— OVERSEER. Waterworks. —Both pumping plants are in good running order. The electric plant failed one night during the month, a wire having fused at the reservoir. Thirty-eight hours were spent on repairs to water pipes in AVavcvley street, Mathew street, Johnson street, Collins street, and Abbotsford road. General. —The tar-sealing of Bibby street has been completed. One concrete culvert and silt box has been installed in Bibby street. Drains leading in the Bush drain from Johnson street, Shanly street and Bennett street have boon cleaned. Watertables in McGrcevy street, Collins street, High street, and the school side of Harker street have been cleaned. One concrete pipe culvert lias been installed in Waverley street to carry off stonn water from Mr A. E. Julj’s roadway. One day was spent by the staff in cleaning up the cemetery. Trees in Victoria street and Waverley street have been pruned. Twenty-eight hours were worked at dull Park. Coal has been carted to the gasworks, and the usual carting of rubbish and grading have been done. GASWORKS. Gas made.—March: 1937, 321,100 cubic feet; 1038, 352,000 cubic feet; increase, 30,000 cubic feet. April: 1937, 328,000 cubic feet; 1938, 321,100 cubic feet; increase, 0900 cubic feet. Coal carbonised. —24 tons 7 cwt. 1 qr. Average make. —13,181 cubic feet per ton. One gas copper was installed, one gas fire fitted, one blocked service pipe lias been cleaned. Consumers’ fittings have been attended to and the usal work at the gasworks carried out. Gas sales. —March, 1937: Gross £145 12s, discount £22 2s Bd, nett £122 5s lid. March, 1938: Gross £lO3 8s Id, discount £24 17s 9d, nett £134 8s Gd. Appliances installed during April.— One gas copper, one gas fire.
