GOLF.

WAIPAWA CLUB’S NEW COURSE. The Waipawa Golf Club’s new course has now been surveyed, and the eighteen holes have been planned by Mr Jock Lambic, the wellknown golf course architect. The course, being laid on gently undulating country, is very interesting, and good natural features are in evidence at every fairway. The playing course is well over 0000 yards, and is some 800 yards longer than the old links. The long holes, of which there are three in the first nine ranging from 450 to 525, are three shotters for the longest smiters, and these lengths should he of advantage to the average length players, as they are well within the three shot range of the moderate hitter. Working bees have been earning their club mates’ esteem by good honest toil, and have already three greens ready for play. There is still a tremendous amount of preliminary work to do, and the assistance of all members of the club in this direction would be appreciated. Indications of opening the links for the season point to about mid-April, but this will be brought much nearer if all members will attend the working bees. The secretary will he delighted to enrol any member for this purpose, and transport can be arranged. The new links will allow of a much longer season than that of the old course, earlier opening can be made, and good playing conditions will continue well into the summer months. A substantial increase in membership is assured for the coming season, a large number of nominations having been lodged with the secretary.
