HEAVY FLOOD ON SATURDAY. STOCK LOSSES. fOwn Correspondent!. Owing to the very heavy rain which fell early on Saturday, there was a big Hood which caused a great deal of damage to Ponces, and several cords of wood were swept away also. The farmers have suffered heavy losses of sheep, several hundreds having been washed away in the swirling waters. The road was covered with water for three or four miles at Elsthorpe, making it impassable until 2 o’clock in the afternoon. No traffic was able to get out to Kairakau Beach, as there were slips on the Patea hill.
