SELECTION OF CANDIDATES. MARTON, Last night. The New Zealand National Party has selected Mr E. B. Gordon, Fern Flats, to contest the Rangitikei seat at the next general election. Branch delegates attended a meeting at Marton last night and three other nom-inees-submitted their names to ballot and agreed to abide by the decision of the delegates present. The full voting strength of each branch was present, and with more than 150 delegates in attendance the gathering was one of the most enthusiastic and vigorous political meetings held in the electorate. Each of the candidates nominated, Messrs T. C. Lowry, Alex. Stuart, AA 7 . J. Crawford, and E. B. Gordon, addressed the meeting, after which a ballot was held. “I will do my best to live up to the ideals of the party and to repay the confidence you have given me,” Mr Gordon said. “I earnestly appeal to one and all, to every' right-thinking elector in Rangitikei, to rally to the cause. Never before has the need been so urgent.” OTAKI SEAT. OTAKI, Last night. The National Party candidate for the Otaki electorate was selected tonight at a meeting of the party’s branch delegates in the Anglican Hall, Otaki. There were 88 delegates present. The three nominees were Messrs E. AVinlev, F. E. Trim and George A. Monk. Mr Win ley withdrew before the selection was made and the result- of the ballot was that Mr Monk was selected as they candidate for the district.
