TIKOKINO SPORTS.

ENTRIES CLOSE TO-NIGHT. Easter Saturday is Tikokino’s day, and the annual Tikokino sports meeting on that day is an outing which few people care to miss, for the Tikokino sports will challenge comparison with any in the Dominion. The programme is one which any sports club might be proud of. There are 37 events covering a great range of sport, and liberal prizes or trophies are offered for each, in addition to which there are handsome cups which are presented as points prizes in the various sections. There are also various competitions going on all day. The running events include children’s races, 100 yards maiden handicap, 100, 220, 440, 880 yards, and one mile handicaps, for men; 75 yards, 100 yards and 120 yards handicaps for ladies, relay race for one man and two ladies.

The cycling events comprise 2-laps, 4-laps and 6-laps cycle handicaps, and a two-lap cycle handicap for youths under 16 years. In this event racing machines are barred. The Barton Cup goes to the competitor scoring most points in the running and cycling events. There is a high jump handicap, in which male and female entrants may compete.

There are three chopping events, open standing, open underhand, and jigger chop; and two sawing events one-man and two-men handicaps. The Armstrong Cup goes to the scorer of most points in these five events. The horse events are always particularly numerous and interesting at Tikokino and include two pony jumps, open jumping, maiden hack, ladies’ leaping competition, and a jumping competition as well as a flag race turning competition, addition race, and thread-the-needle race. The Holden Cup goes to the local horse gaining most points in the five jumping events, and Mr A. W. Parsons’ challenge cup to the owner scoring most points in the same classes.

There will be luncheon and othei booths on the ground, and hot wate will be supplied to picnic parties. The sports will be held in the fim new Mathews Memorial Park, and will commence at 11 a.m. A dancr will be held in the Tikokino Hall in the evening. Intending competitors are reminded that nominations for the running (except relay), cycling wood chopping and sawing events, will close with the honorary secertary, Mr John C. Hall, to-night at 8. Entry fees for the run ning and cycling events are Is each event; for the jigger chop, 2s; for the one-man sawing event, 3s; and for the two-men sawing and th; standing underhand chopping events 4s each.
