CHRISTMAS CHEER.

FON THE BOYS AT THE SAN. ANNUAL FETE DAY. (11l Wednesday the district branches I,l* the lied Cross Society combined in giving the hoys of “The San’’ a Christmas fete, and there was an ex ccptionnlly large allendanee from all ports of Cent ral Hawke s Bay . Competitions were organised and carried through, an excellent little rolled I was staged by a party of visitors, and afternoon tea was dis prosed. To those who were unable to lake part in the various competitions seasonable gifts were made. The Waipawa branch was, as usual, responsible for the musical programme, and under the direction of Mr 11. C. Collett the following helped to make the day a success: —Airs McLeod, Mrs L. MeHardv, Mrs .L I lrUgnn, Mrs O’lieilly, Mrs Mercer; Misses C. Mclieod, (4. Pickett, Matson, Major, Higgins and S. Moronry; Messrs Shackelford and F. O’Halloran. At the close of the function Dr. (1. McLean, medical superintendent, thanked the visitors for their kindly thought, and for the interest which the lied Cross Society had shown in the patients during the year. Mrs E. D. Rice, president of tb*• society, then presented the following prizes won during the afternoon: — Chain stepping.—Pointer 1, Clark 2, Watson 3. Quoits. —Houlihan 1, Colyer 2, Keys 3. Deck quoits.-- Richardson 1, Hammond 2, Fitzgerald 3. Ladder golf.—Eecleton 1, Borwiek 2. Hay 3. Putting.- Paul 1, Reeves 2, Culver 3. Sticking the pig.—Bcutli 1, Houlihan 2. Malum a 3. Articles on tray.—Turpin 1, Robertson 2, Sattertliwaite 3. Peas in bottle.—Wall 1, Kaurati 2. Moore 3.
