A DECIDED DROP.

AT WEDNESDAY’S WOOL SALE HALFPENNY TO ONE PENNY. The wool sale at Napier on Wednesday was disappointing. Tt opened fairly well, and hopes ran strongly that the hoi tom had been reached, bul the further the sale advanced Du* lower the prices got, and an analysis of the day’s operations showed that figures were from a halfpenny to a penny down on Wellington returns, and from a penny halfpenny to twopence down on the prices obtained at

the first sale of the season in Napier. About 25 per cent, of the offerings were passed. WILLIAMS AND KETTLE, LTD. Messrs Williams and Kettle, Ltd., report: —We held our second sale ol the season on Wednesday morning, our offering being 441)5 linles. I In’ condition of the wool was not as good as that offered in November, in that it was not so welt grown, thin, and a fair <|unntit.y of hair showing. This was all no doubt aermmted for by the wet winter and early spring. There were fewer buyers than earlier in the season, and tin* eompetition was very ragged, whilst there was very little spirit in the bidding, the greatest animation being shown when our intrrlotted lines and pooled wools were offered. We estimate that values for all classes cd' fleeee wool were from td to :|d down on the reeent. Wellington sale*, and in one or two eases for extra fine wools llio drop was Quite Id. Pieees, bellies, and erntehings did not show sueli a drop as the fleece wool and produced good competition from the Continent. There was very poor competition for the fair lots of lambs’ wool we had to offer and most, of these were passed in. We sold about 65 per cent, under the hammer.
