PATANGATA COUNTY.
At the monthly meeting of the Patangata County Council yesterday a letter was received from the Department of Internal Affairs advising in reference to petitions for the exclusion of certain lands from the borough of Waipawa that as the Urban Farm Land* Rating Bill was not passed into law last session the hon. Minister had now decided to proceed further with those and other similar petitions. The commission provided for under the Municipal Corporations Act would therefore be set up at an early date in respect of each petition. Advice that complaints had been received from drovers to the effect that they could not get their stock across from the main road into the Otane stock road on account of a deep ditch was received from the Waipawa County Council. The writers suggested that the position could be improved by putting in a drain. If that were done, the Waipawa County Council would be prepared to pay half the estimated cost of £ls. —The meeting decided to grant the request. The No. 5 District Highways Council wrote stating that it had recommended the construction of McAuley’s bridge, on the Elsthorpe-Tuki Tuki road, and of Butler’s culvert on the Waipawa-Pourerere main highway. Tt appeared, however, that a shortage of funds would make it impossible for th<‘ Main Highway* Board to authorise the work at present.—Received. The Public Works Department, writing in reference to the Council’s application to have an officer with a good knowledge of local body government matters appointed chairman of •the commission in connection with the Waipukurau traffic bridge, in lieu of' the usual practice of appointing a Magistrate, advised that the application could probably be granted provided that the commission be held some time in January next.
