MONTHLY MEETING. Present —Mr L. Glenny (chairman), B. Gray, C. Thomsen, C. Bain biidge, and N. M. Paulsen. CORRESPONDENCE. From No. 5 District Highways Council, forwarding Main Highway Construction Estimates.—The estimates provided for a grant of £2475 for the sealing of the road from the Hawke’s Bay County boundary to tit 1 Waipawa Borough boundary (£3 fo. £1) and £.15 for taking off a corner •n ar Waldrom’s, on the Tikokino road (£1 for £1). —Received. F inn Director-General of Health, advising the holding of a refreshe • course for sanitary inspectors.—Re ceived. From P. A. Milne, sanitary inspector, in reference to same. —Grant of £2 2s made towards travelling expenses. From G. H. Hodd, advising that mie of his premises at Takapau was uiiteiianted.—Received. From Patangata County Council, for■winding resolution relative to the Waipukurau tratlic bridge.—Received. Fioin District Engineer, Public Work* Department, Napier, in reference to grant for Smedley road.-—The •’"hlic Works Engineer stated that as the road had already been metalled a grant could not he made. —Smedley Advisory Board to he asked for assistance. From clerk, Hawke’s Bay County Council, in reference to {imposed model set of by-laws.—Received. From Hawke’s Bay County Council, forwarding schedule setting forth the allocation of heavy traffic fees.— The schedule stated that the Conn oil's share of the fees was £B2l.—Received. From A. H. Ferguson, in reference to hawkers.—The writer expressed the opinion that in view of the Supreme Court decision Counties could not collect fees for hawkers’ licenses until Ihe by-law was amended. From Commissioner of Transport, asking for information regarding motor vehicle regulations.—Referred to tratlic inspector for report. From Commissioner of Transport, regarding traffic signs of N.Z. manufacture.- —To be informed that the County procures its signs- locally. From secretary, Onga Onga Sports Club, asking for further use of roller. —To be informed that it would be inconvenient to lend the roller for some time as it was engaged on the Pukelion road.

From Department of Internal Affairs, advising that a Commission would he set up at an early date to consider urban lands rating.—Received. From District Engineer, Public Works Departmi*nl, in reference to grant for Fletcher’s Crossing bridge. —Application for grant to he made. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The Council’s engineer (Mr R. W. Bond) submitted his report for the period ended November 30th, 1929, as follows: Waipawa Riding.—The second sealing coat is completed on the Te Ante road to Silverstream. Showery weather is somewhat retarding progress. Metalling on College road i* completed. Grading has been carried out in this riding, all roads being in good order. Waipawa river bridge decking and beams have been dismantled, two sots of wooden piles drawn and seven new concrete ones driven. Onga Riding.—General maintenance and grading have been carried one on various roads, and repairs made to decking on McLennan’* bridge. Repairs are being effected along the Waipawa-Waipukurau road sealing. The repairs asked for by the tenant of the Onga Onga house will cost £4O. White lines have been painted round curves on the Wai {in wa-Wa ipnkurnu road. Clinton Riding.—Fencing has been done at Pleasant Valiev road new bridge. Contractor Forbes is getting on .satisfactorily metalling various roads about Makaretu, also contractor Maulder on the South Makaretu road. The County crushing plant has been moved from Takapau road and is being erected near the Tukipo bridge, Onga-Takapau road. General maintenance and grading have been carried out. Takapau Riding.—The grass road from Stubbs’ corner to Speedy’s woolshed is being graded and the worst places repaired with metal. A running coat of crushed metal has been put on the Aornngi road from the Waipukurau County boundary to the main road, and 100 yards of metal dlipped for maintenance purposes. Bridge on this road by the ploughman’s house requires new decking. New decking has been put on bridge by Edgar’s,' Asheott road. Willows growing in stream on Messrs McDonald’s and Edgar’s properties are impeding the flow of water, and steps should be taken to have them removed before further damage is caused to the road. Concrete pipe* have been delivered on Keeghan’s end of Rangitoto road. The chip crushing plant has been dismantled at Waipawa and is now being erect ed at Takapau. Onga Riding: Repairs to be made to I lie Onga Onga house, and rent to be raised 2s (id weekly. Takapau: Repairs to be done to roadman’s house. Engineer to call tenders fo» culvert bridge on tin* Omawha.ro road. Engineer and Cr. Paulsen to inspect: stream blocked by willows. GENERAL.

Repair work on the Tikokino Onga bridge to be expedited. The telephone linesman reported that three new poles had been erected in tin* Takapau riding.—Cr. Thomsen drew attention to the fact that tin line at Makaretu crossed McKays plantation, which could be obviated by a slight deviation. —Referred t< lim small. Messrs C. Smith and J. P.
