WANGANUI V. HAWKE'S BAY. CLOSE CONTEST. The popularity of the Waipawa tennis courts was demonstrated by the decision of the Hawke’s Bay Tennis Association to play the annual match with Wanganui herd. The contest eventuated on Saturday. In the morning a very tricky wind was blowing, and this considerably affected play, but conditions improved in Ibe afternoon. Singles were played in the morning, and at the luncheon adjournment each side had won six games. Similarly when the men’s doubles and ladies’ doubles had been completed the position was equal. In the mixed doubles, however, Hawke’* Bay managed to win five of the six games and won the match by 14 to 10. Morning and afternoon tea was dispensed by Mrs H. M. Rathbone and helpers, and was greatly appreciated by the players. Detailed results of play are as under, Hawke’s Bay names and scores being mentioned first:— MEN’S SINGLES.
