[Own Correspondent]. Mr G. Wilson, a missionary from Malaya, who is very favorably known in this district, has consented to give an address on “Early Christianity and the Catacombs of Rome” in the Town Hall on Thursday. Residents are reminded of the dramatic entertainment to he staged tonight. In addition to the performers there will he a first-class orchestra of eight musicians. GUN CLUB SHOOT. On Saturday a shoot was conducted under the auspices of the Otane Gun Club. Beautiful weather prevailed, and although there was only a moderate attendance, some good shooting was witnessed. Mesdames Smith, Rumbal and Thorpe presided over the afternoon tea arrangements, and their efforts "ere much appreciated. At the conclusion the president, Air AI. in the first sweep Waldrom, Holt, Alills and McMullan divided the prize money with seven birds each. The first nine-bird match for a trophy presented by Air A. Robottom, McMullan and Mills, with nine birds each, had to shoot off. Alills missed the first bird and took second prize, the trophy going to McAlullan. The second trophy match was a straight-out win for Whittle, the only shooter with nine birds. In the shootoff Alills took second prize. The hitter also had a straighl-out win in the second seven-bird sweep, while seven shooters divided second and third money. The quail drive was won by AlcMullan with seven birds, Alills, Fraser and Thorpe dividing second and third money. Air G. W. Thorpe has donated a valuable gold medal for the best aggregate in three nine-bird matches, in this and the two succeeding shoots to he held before the end of the year. BASKETBALL. On Saturday afternoon a very fine exposition of hasketball was seen on the Recreation Ground, when the local girls’ team was defeated by the Waipawa High Schqpl team by 9 goals to 4. The visitors showed superior generalship and condition, scoring three goals in the last five minutes. SCHOOL INSPECTION. Messrs D. AlcCaskill and S. Clark, Inspectors of Schools, conducted the annual inspection of the school on Friday.
