SATURDAY’S GAMES. Waipawa (12) v. Otane (0). The Waipawa seniors met Otane for the second time this season, on Saturday, on the latter’s ground, securing a win by 12 points to nil. The game was of an interesting character throughout, the winners securing six points in the first spell, whilst a similar score was registered in the second. The scores were compiled by Logan, Whyman and Hutana, who each secured a try. King also kicked a splendid goal from a penalty. Mr E. Maher had control of the game, and his duties were not rendered too pleasant owing to the action of a Waipawa player, who was finally asked to stand down.

Onga Onga (13) v. Tikokino (3). This game was played at Onga Onga and resulted in a win for the heme team by 13 points to 3. It was the most interesting match seen there this season, and rvas played in the best of humor. Collins was very prominent, his “stunts” being very noticeable. Tries were scored for the home team by J. Stevens, H. Carr, and A. Stewart, two of the tries being' converted. Bolt (full-back), Nicholls and Lineham played a good game for Tikokino. The* last-named scored a try. Murphy, J. Stevens and Easther

were in good form for the home team. Mr J. Morley had charge of the whistle and no complaints were heard. RANSOM CUP. Waipawa D.H.S. (18) v. Hastings D.H.S. (0). A Ransom Cup match, Hastings D.H.S. v. Waipawa D.H.S., was played on Coronation Park on Saturday. Waipawa won the toss and played with the sun behind them. Hastings kicked off and attacked strongly. After a few minutes’ play Waipawa got the ball from a scrum. It was passed out to Anstis, the Waipawa left wing, who was very safe in his collaring and saved his side on more than one occasion. After about 15 minutes’ play Anstis scored, and- soon after repeated the performance. Play was then taken xrat into the field again, and from a passing rush N. Swain secured and after a great run, scored. Play continued very even until the whistle went; Waipawa 9, Hastings 0. On resuming Hastings pressed Waipawa for a few minutes and once or *twice looked like scoring. Waipawa gradually pressed the visitors and from a forward melee Watts secured a smart try. Play continued fairly even until near the end of the game, when Arthur Miller scored twice running. “No side” went soon after with, the scores —Waipawa 18, Hastings 0.

Although the scores were decidedly in Waipawa’s favor, Hastings, a lighter team, played a very willing game and made the play fast. A feature of the match was the passing of the local backs, every one of whom played a first class game. The local forwards worked hard and were on the hall the whole time. Of the visitors Briggs (captain), the left wing, and the full-hack were outstanding. Mr A. Williams gave every satisfaction with the whistle. THIRD ROUND FIXTURES. HAWKE’S BAY TOURISTS. FIRST LOSS. (Per Press Association). MASTERTON, Last night. The representative match Wairarapa v. Hawke’s Bay, was played at Carterton on Saturday in ideal weather, in the presence of 1500 spectators. The play at times was exciting, and the spectators were given full value for their money. The visitors played a very good offensive game but they were not so strong on the defence. Wairarapa kicked off, and after some give-and-take play were awarded a free kick in the visitors ’ twentyfive, from which Murray piloted the ball over the bar. This reverse livened up Hawke’s Bay, who pressed strongly. From play in the home side’s twenty-five, the visitors’ halfback snapped up the leather and transferred to Barclay, who got over before the Greens knew what had happened. Yates converted. There was no further score in this spell. Shortly'after the resumption of play Toohill scored for Wairarapa, Murray’s kick at goal failing. Wairarapa continued to force the game, and Toohill again scored. The visitors then took a hand in matters, and it was only solid defence that stopped them from scoring. Play again transferred to the visitors’ territory, when Irvine (Wairarapa’s half-back) marked, and taking the kick himself added a further three points to Wairarapa ’s score. Although the visitors made strong efforts to score, they could not penetrate the defence, and the game ended —Wairarapa 12, Hawke’s Bay 5. Mr Bert McKenzie was referee.
