ONGA ONGA.

(Own Correspondent)

A concert and dance in aid of the Brass Band’s instrument fund will take place on Friday next. A good programme is being arranged, and a musical treat is anticipated. There passed away in Gisborne last week a very old and respected identity in the person of Mr J. Higgs, aged 79. At one time he was landlord of the Sandford Arms Hotel. The Tennis Club held a meeting in the hall on Tuesday last for the purpose of electing officers, etc. It was decided to have a concert in a month’s time. Miss D. Lucas was elected secretary for the coming season. A meeting of the Brass Band Committee was held on Wednesday. A letter was received from Messrs Eady, oi’ Auckland, offering a first-class Boozey euphonium for £3O. It was decided to procure the same as quickly as possible. Since the bazaar was held £147 has been spent in instruments, music and stands.
