(Own Correspondent)

A meeting of the Patriotic Society was held in the Public Hall on Fridya, August 10th, for the purpose of electing a new committee. The following were elected: —Messrs H. Whyte (chairman), J. Pell, L. Hollings, D. Richards, W. Willicombe, 11. Buchanan, and S. Mercer (secretary). Private H. Cook, of Blackburn, is home on final leave. He returns to camp on Monday next. Mrs Tate, of Spring Hill, is now an inmate of the Waipukurau Hospital, having undergone a serious operation in that institution.

The Ladies’ Patriotic Committee will hold a meeting in the Public Hall on Monday next, at 7.30 p.m,. to arrange the packing of parcels, etc. Parents and friends of the boys who have left the district since August, 1916, are requested to forward their names and addresses, in case any soldier should be overlooked. The following names were omitted from the list of helpers for the Christmas comforts for the boys at the front:—Mrs G. V. Knight, Misses Morrison (Makaretu), Miss E. Fargher, and Masters G. and L. Fargher (Blackburn), and Mr H. Buchanan.

On account of the inclement weather experienced lately the attendance at our local sales, on Thursday last, was very moderate. All good stock, etc., realised satisfactory prices.
