PERSONAL ITEMS.

Corporal C. H. Wilkie is spending week-end leave in the district. Mrs Ayres has received advice that her son, Private Alfred Ayres, has been admitted to the Walton-on-Thames Hospital. Mr C. Saunders, of Waipukurau, received advice from the Defence Department on Thursday evening that his son, Hubert, had been wounded in action on the 31st July. Hector J. O’Halloran, son of Mr E E. O’Halloran, of Waipawa, a married man, has volunteered for active service. He will leave from Waipawa on Wednesday, August 22nd, to go into camp with the 33rd Reinforcements. Douglass O’Halloran, another son, is also a volunteer. He goes into camp in September.

Intimation has been received from the Defence authorities by Miss Limpus, of Patangata, that her nephew, Private E. T. Limpus, was killed in action early this month. His brother, Private Percy Limpus, was killed a few weeks ago. Both boys were well and favorably known throughout the district, and warm sympathy goes out to the bereaved relatives.

Another Waipukurau boy lias made the supreme sacrifice and given his life for his country, namely, Clarence Hansen, son of Air and Mrs J. Hansen, of the The deceased was wounded, it is presumed, in action on July 31st, as the advice received from the Department states that he died on July 31st from wounds received. He left here with the 13th Reinforcements and was 23 years of age. ■
