U BOAT CHASERS.
WOODEN SHIPS ABANDONED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received This Day, 9 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 6. The “New York World’s” Washington correspondent says the Navy Department is contemplating the abandonment of wooden U boat chasers and concentrating on the construction of destroyers. It is believed that Admiral Sims reported that the British method of combating U boats by wooden chasers had been unsuccessful as a means of disposing of the menace.
