A Surprise Gallop.
(By “Tipster.) The followers of Quiet Bill alias Stagnation, not being satisfied with his gallops as reported by your sporting writer “ Early Bird,” decided on giving him a final flutter this morning His trainar and friends taking advantage of the absence ftom town of Unscrupulous alias “ Scarlet Runner,” the trainer of SpeoulatioD, who holds an unbeaten record, surreptitiously nobbled this horse from his stable, and with the colours, whip and spur, despatched them on even terms, over a course of three miles on the western outskirts of the borough. From tho word “Go ” the pace was hot, but it was soon apparent to the numerous watchers that Quiet Bill, koowing every inoh of the oountry, soon had his doughty opponent in sericus trouble, who was considerably handicapped by not knowing tbo course and the position of the jumps. Cver the boundary jump to the Alps Quiot Bill led by two lengths, which was increased to four lengths by the time the Rabbit Hill jump was negotiated. Ouce over and down the hill to the Blue Gum jump, on the straight run home Speculation spurted and lessened the gap somewhat, but it was of no avail, as palpably tiring in the run home he left Quiet Bill to run in an easy winner by quite ten lengths. N«edlesß to say this gallop has considerably shortened Quiet Bill’s price, and he is now au odds on favourite.
