At tho Wairuna enquiry Captain Atwood, Assistant Marine Superintendent, stated that the Moonah was a ttrongly built koteb. Ho thought it absolutely impossible that the damage could have boon sustained by a ketch drifting up with the tide across tho Wairuna’s bow, David Gouk, a shipbuilder, said the gash extonded 22 foot from tho port side to within five feet of tho starboard. It was impossible to have been made by tho vessels drifting together. The Wairuna appoared to have climbed right over the ketch.
