(Own Correspondent.) The football season was opened hart on Saturday afternoon. Although nothing of an auspicious engagement took place with the senior clubs much in* torest, if not more, as far as the younger generation was concerned, was manifest in tho match played between the Waipawa and Waipukurau eohool teems. Speculation had been rife for the past day cr two amongst the players es to the playing capabilities of the two teams and tho usual predictions were prophe* eied as to the result. The matoh on Saturday, however, put the local team'l supporters anxiety at rest soon after ths game started, as it was soon noticed Waipukurau had the better team, el* though Waipawa scored first. Thelooel players immediately equalised matter* and after putting an extra spurt on scored time after time, finishing up with tho grand total of 21 against 6 scored by tho visitors. The next match will b# looked forward to with much interest.
