Waipukurau Road Board.

(Own Correspondent)

A meeting of the Waipukurau Road I Board was held on Tuesday morning. Present: —Messrs Gow (chair), Huggins, Butler, Groome and Williamson. The overseer’s report stated that I he had carried out all the instructions passed at the previous meeting and suggested that repairs be done on the Mataweke road and at Cullings’ cutting, at Hatuma. The report was adopted with the suggestions. The projected deviation on the Mount Herbert road to Mangatarata, suggested by Messrs Sainsbury and Logan was adopted. The balance-sheet, which was passed, showed a credit of £413 18s 9d at the end of the financial year. The old valuations brought in a sum of £748 and as the town properties had had their valuations increased they might expect over £BOO, of which £539 had already been paid away for work done on the Hatuma roads.

The pay sheet amounting to £4O was passed for payment. Correspondence was read from Messrs S. Johnston and L. C. Rathbone, pointing out the unfair manner

in which the Board was treating them in the matter of making road access to their properties. Mr Rathbone’s letter contained a feasible scheme for obviating this but the board decided to receive the letters and do nothing. Mr E. Gilbertson wrote, offering to pay for twelve yards of metal to be put on the footpath between the Masonic Hall and the Patangata County Council office, if the Board would have the gravel spread.—To be notified that the footpath was on the county road and the Board could do nothing. The Board’s deliberations were rudely disturbed for some time by the earthquake.
