Rakautatahi Block.
Mr Hall asked the Government whether, seeing that Rakautatahi native block, near Norsewood, is lying idle and unproductive, they would purchase the block for settlement I or cause it to be placed in the hands of the Native Land Council for settle-1 ment. The effect of the reply was : Unless there is an amendment of the Land for Settlements Act this native land cannot be compulsorily purchased for settlement. The block can be placed in the hands of the council only at the request in writing of the owners. If this is done, favourable considers- | tion will be given. Dannevirke Post-Office. In reply to Mr Hall, the Post-master-General stated : “ The present Post-office building at Dannevirke, with some alterations, which it is hoped will be put in hand before long, will bo sufficient for many years to come. The building is only about ten years old, and it would be out of the question to condemn it. The Government, after full enquiries, have concluded that a new building is not required, but that the present office must be enlarged and altered in the interests of the public as well as of the department.”
