Takapau Caledonian Society.

The annual meeting of the above Society was held on Wednesday last, Mr W. C. Gavin, vice-president in the chair. Over 20 members were present. Correspondence was read from Mr G. Hunter, president, and Mr J. B. A’Deane regretting their inability to attend. The report and balance-sheet was read and adopted. A vote of thanks was accorded Messrs J. A. Rodie, and E. G. Manning for auditing same. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr G. Hunter; vice-presidents, Messrs S. Johnston, W. 0. Smith, M.L.C., W. 0. Gavin, J. Worrall, P. Wall, E. G. Manning; hon. treasurer, Mr H. A. Speedy ; secretary, Mr J. Powrie. Rule VI was amended that five directors at a meeting should form a quorum, in place of seven. The following gentlemen were proposed and elected members : —Messrs M. Carpenter, J. Harvey, and F. Carr. The date of the next sports was left in the hands of the directors, but will probably be on 12th February. Messrs J. Scott,| W. Ellingham, W. Crampton, A. Fraser, E. Tucker, F. Baker, W. L. Johnstone, and M. Carpenter were appointed a ground and

games committee, the same gentlemen to act as a finance committee. The work, or rather neglect of work, of the New Zealand Association of Caledonian Societies was adversely criticised, and the opinion was freely expressed that unless there was a vast improvement in the management of this body, it would be advisable for the Takapau Society to withdraw from it.
