Presentation at Gwavas.

A very pleasing function took placo at Gwavas on Monday night, wheu tho friends of Messrs John M‘Cabe and W. Hallassy met for the purpose of making a presentation to them. On behalf of his friends on the station Mr G. Douglas made a presentation of a double gold albert to Mr J. M‘Cabo. In a pithy speech he referrod to tho recipient’s many good qualities, and tho regret expressed by everyone on hearing of his departure from Gwavas. Mr M‘Cabo thanked the assemblage for their handsome present and for the good feeling shown towards him. On behalf of his friends present Mr Douglas then presented Mr Hallassy with a silver-mounted pipe. The recipient returned thanks. Songs were given during the evening by Mesdames H. Mitchell, G. Douglas, and J. Nichol, a vocal duet by Mrs Ralph Douglas and Miss Douglas, songs by Messrs D. M ; Kenzie, T. Cosgrove, J. McCabe, H. Mitchell, A. G. M. Campbell, and C. Rynan, also by Misses M. M‘Millan, M. M'Michael, M. M‘Cormick, and J. M‘Cutcheon. A recitation was given by Miss Maggie M‘Millan. After full justice had been done to a substantial supper the room was cleared for dancing, which was indulged in until the early hours of the morning, the music being supplied by Messrs W. Hallassy and A. Neilsen. A number of Highland dances were executed by Messrs A. M‘Konzie, George Douglas, John M‘Vicar, D. M‘Kenzie, and R. Douglas. An Irish jig was also danced by Mrs Joseph Weydock. “ Auld Lang Syne ” by the company brought a very pleasant evening to a close.
