About the Waipawa Public School.

fTO THE EDITOR.] ■ Sib,—When I heard the first bell of the ■ Waipawa Pablic School ring this morning ■it 8.30,1 thought things ought to go no ■ further without a little ventilation. I ■ would like to ask two questions on two ■| subjects:—l. Why are the children eum- ■ moaed to school half-an hour earlier, ■ when already the hours are disgracefully ■ long? Yesterday when passing the school ■ 1 taw a number of little boys and girls ■ coming out of school about quarter past 4 I don’t know to what standard they belonged, but they seemed tome small and school hours from 9.30 to ■ 12.30 and then from 1.30 to 4,15 are far ■ ! 00 long without adding an extra half- ■ honr in the morning. I also heard, it ®iy be only hearsay, that in one case a girl, living some distance off, is sometimes to reach her home ■ Wore 6 o’clock. 2. May I ask, why, in toe 3rd and 4th standard room, the have been kept through all the winter without a fire? Doubtless ■ tbe master doesn’t feel cold walking ■ shouting is a warm occupation ! the little boys and girls, many of ■ {J 8 ® thin clothes, do feel cold, and ■ wr sufferings must be considerable, with chilblains and other woes. ■ Sir, I should like an answer to ? aeßl,onß - Indeed, il some satis ■ , r y ohaDge does not fortbeome, some HJ . w iH feel it our duty to let the the Waipawa school authorities ■ * Q own at headquarters.— I am, &c., Observer.
