WAIPUKURAU.
(OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
The Waipukurau Road Board held its usual monthly meeting on Saturday night, but beyond passing the customary accounts for payment there was no special business to report. Present : Messrs Jones (chair), W. C. Smith, P. Gow, and H. S. Hooper. On Saturday the Patangata County Council’s stonebreaker was started at the Wanstead quarry, and made a highly satisfactory beginning, the quarry stone being crushed up at a rate that promises to realize the best expectations of the machine. Mr Gilbertson has made what seems to be an important departure from the original design in having the lower screen covered so that the small metal, used for binding, instead of accumulating below the machine, where considerable extra expense would he incurred in shitting it, is conveyed by the elevators to the top screen and falls into the draj’s with the heavier metal. Mr Forsyth of Porangahau has the quarrying and stone-crush-iog contract.
