Waipawa School Committee.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above committee took place last Saturday evening, Messrs White (chair), Nash, Gilmour, Harker, Collett, and Mogridge being present.

The Education Board informed the Committee that Messrs Baker, Ormond, and Russell retired by rotation at the end of March next, and requested them to nominate two persons qualified to be members. The Chairman stated he had received the communication referred to some days after the date of the Committee’s usual monthly meeting. The Committee considered that longer notice should have been given for nomination ; and after a short discussion it was decided to hold a special meeting on thp 2>Hh instant, for

the purpose of considering nominations to fill the vacancies.

Miss Rosie, the Head Mistress, wrote from Wellington, asking for six weeks leave of absence owing to having to undergo an operatiou on her throat. A medical certificate from Dr F. W. Mackenzie was also enclosed certifying to the necessity of Miss Rosie refraining from work for at least six weeks while under his treatment.—Mr White stated he had, on his own responsibility, telegraphed to Miss Rosie, granting the required leave of absence, and the Chairman’s action was unanimously endorsed by the Committee. The Secretary was instructed to inform the Board of Miss Rosie’s illness, and also to request Mr Hill to provide a substitute temporarily. A statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the recent picnic and prize-fund, duly audited, was laid before the meeting, showing a credit balance of £1 16s 7d.

The following accounts were passed : Mrs Barrows, £1 5s ; E. Mitchell, 12s 61. The Chairman reported the receipt of £ls lls from the Education Board. Messrs Gilmour and White were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month.
