ORMONDVILLE.

[from our own correspondent.] An indignation meeting was held here on Saturday last to protest against and condemn the statements (and their author) contained in a.letter, which appeared in a Napierpaper, December 7th, signed “ Ratepaper No. 1.” Mr Groom was voted to the chair, and in a few explanatory remarks left tho matter in the hands of the meeting. Messrs Baines, Hansen, Thacker and O'Learj', all spoke in strong condemnatory terms about the contents of the said letter, after which, Mr Crossland proposed and Mr Shugar seconded: “That this meeting is of the opinion that the letter appearing in a Napier paper of the 7th iust and signed ‘ Ratepayer No. I.’ is a false and malicious statement of the facts, as regards the action of the chairman of Mr Hanson’s statement, nnd also of tho report given by the paper’s correspondent,” Carried unanimously. It was further proposed by Mr Leach, and seconded by Mr Cox: “That this meeting condemn the letter written to tho said paper by ‘ Ratepayer No. I.’ as regards the meeting of ratepayers held to consider the loan proposed by the County Council, and consider that the said letter is a complete tissue of falsehoods and entirely misrepresents tho wltolo proceedings of tiiat meeting.” Carried unanimously. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Younginan for tho efficient and satisfactory manner in which he had represented the district and Joqked after its interests ; to this was added a unauiinous vote of confidence for the future.

SALE OF TIIE LATE MR FIRTIIS ESTATE.

The sale of the lute Mr Firth’s estate is generally called, will take place to-day and to-morrow, and is expected to bring a good few buyers about the township. Part of the proposed sale was very nearly being disposed of differently yesterday, fire making a very smart bid for the mill. From some unknown cause the saw-dust, near the engine-shed hod caught tire, and only for the prompt action of Mr G. Ilcnsen, tho mill plant would now have beeu nug cut. TIIE LIBRARY will within a fortnight be placed on its new site between Messrs Leach’s and Skinner’s buildings. In the hands of Mr Beale, who secured the contract for £l3 10s, I have no doubt that tho removal will be satisfactorily accomplished. The new location will bo far more convenient for the reading public, especially travellers. The committee lias also done a wise thing in appointing a permanent librarian in Mr Hollins, who lias taken a great interest in the movement from the first, and will, I am sure, do all iu his power to promote its growth and success. AN HOTEL, replete with every comfort for man and boast, is looming in the near future. It is to be erected by Mr Woods at Makotuku beside Mr Hobbs’s hall. The site, (1 acre) with a well-finished cottage thereon, was purchased only within the last few days from Mr llobbs, for a very satisfactory price.
