At the Good Templars’ usual meeting last night it was resolved to hold a picnic on New Year’s Lay, in the Bush adjoining Waipawa, and to invite tho co-operation of the different temperance societies ; also the churches and Sunday schools. It was thought important that something should be done to counteract the evils arising from young people attending race meetings where drinking and gambling are so prevalent. A special committee has been elected to meet ami work with other temperance societies, churches and Sunday schools, with the above object in view. We remind insurers of the meeting which takes place in tho Library this evening, to consider the question of purchasing a lire engiue.
