WAIPAWA TOWN BOARD.

Tiie Board met on Tuesday evening,, when were present: Messrs Bibby (chairman), Shanly, Bennett, Guy, and McGreevy. The minutes of last meeting were confirmed. Mr Bennett for the Works Committee reported that the formation and metalling of Rose Street and Church Roadwas completed, also, that Collins Street, Sedgewick, was formed and nearly ready for metalling. On the motion of Mr McGreevy, seconded by Mr Guy, it was resolved that the Clerk write to Mr Carr, the Resident Engineer, requesting him to recommend to Government the desirability out opening of the road leading from Collins Street to the Railway Station.

The Chairman reported that the deputation appointed last meeting to wait upon Messrs Rathbone and Britten with regard to obtaining a road across their lands to connect the middle Bush road with the North Road, had seen those gentlemen, but was not successful in obtaining their consent to the proposal. He considered therefore that the only way would be to take the land under the Public Works Act, but as their means were limited at present, he thought the matter could stand over for a time.

Mr McGreevy thought the sooner they set about it the better, and they could deal with Waverley Street at the same time^

Mr Shanly took the same view as the Chairman, and did not seethe necessity for going on with it at present. Mr Guy pointed out that they would have to wait for the survey. Mr McGreevy gave notice of motion for next ordinary meeting to move that the land necessary for the road be taken under the Public Works Act. The Clerk was instructed to obtain the requisite information in the mean

time to enable the Board to carry out the motion ultimately. On the motion of Mr Shanly, seconded by Mr Guy, it was resolved that the Works Committee have the drain opposite Cooper’s property in AVaverley street attended to ; to repair theroad opposite Mrs Carmichael’s property in the bush ; metal Collins Street ; and further that they purchase some trees and plant them in the Recreation ground. The Clerk pointed out that a difficulty frequently arose in describing the streets in the Bush for want of names, and after some consultation, it was resolved on the motion of Mr Guy, seconded by Mr Bennett, that they be named as follows :—The street leading from west to east through the centre of the Bush to be called Bibby Street ; the first street, running north and south at the west end of the bush to be called McGreevy Street ; the second, Guy Street; the third, Bennett Street ; the fourth, Shanly Street ; the fifth, Johnson Street; and the sixth, Rathbone Street. Mr Dennam’s account of £5 17s 6d for plan was passed for payment. The Chairman said some of the trees in the Domain needed replacing, and he had been speaking to the Chairman who thought it ought now to be taken over by the Town Board. He moved accordingly that the Clerk take the necessary steps to have the domain vested in the Board, and that some trees bo planted where needed by the works committee. Seconded by Mr Guv. and carried.
